Many families spend a short time in Miami pre- or post-cruise, but the city is worthy of an entire vacation, with cutting-edge restaurants, renowned beaches, and bits and pieces of history and culture in every neighborhood. If you”re planning a visit to Miami with your family, consider a stay at one of these hotels. All of them guarantee swimming pools and other perks for kids. These are our favorites, as rated by other families and our staff of experts. Welcome to Miami.
You can”t miss the InterContinental Miami, especially at night, when the 35-story building shines with interchanging neon colors. The deluxe hotel offers two restaurants — order La Bomba at Toro Toro and thank us later — as well as a rooftop bar. The hotel staff pulls out the stops for its youngest guests, too — they”re happy to appease all requests, including those for in-room forts. The InterContinental Miami is located by a stop for the Metro Mover (which is free to ride).
EPIC – A Kimpton Hotel
The name is fitting. EPIC is one of the hottest hotels in Miami, and is the flagship property of Kimpton Hotels. Families can enjoy two onsite restaurants, plus access to a reservable private dining room for events and celebrations, as well as Kimpton Kids, a kids’ program that provides kids activities in the fitness rooms, rentable strollers, kids’ menus and more. The hotel has a full-service spa (a rarity at many Kimpton Hotels), and families have the option to rent bikes on a first come, first served basis. There are also two rooftop pools.
Mandarin Oriental Miami
The Mandarin Oriental Miami has an infinity-edge pool — perfect for escaping the city”s infamous heat — as well as a private, man-made beach. Book a Family Suite through the Family Travel Escape package, where parents and kids can stay in style and enjoy amenities such as free kids meals (for children under 11 years old), children’s outdoor camping, and complimentary valet parking. There are three restaurants, plus a lounge onsite.
The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne
The gorgeous Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne delivers the ultimate in luxury, with a zero-entry swimming pool, beach (with complimentary beach towels and chairs), tennis center and kids’ club. There”s also a spa, where little ones can enjoy manicures and pedicures. There are five places to dine onsite, including Scoop, where families can order ice cream and gelatos by the pool.
Fontainebleau Miami Beach
There are 11 pools at Fontainebleau Miami Beach — 11 pools! These include wading pools for youngsters, along with a water spray ground and small waterslide. There”s also a beach just steps from the hotel, and kids can participate in FB Kids, a supervised program that includes scavenger hunts and movie nights. When it”s time to enjoy a meal together, there are twelve restaurants available at the hotel.
Hampton Inn & Suites Miami/Brickell-Downtown
The Hampton Inn & Suites Miami/Brickell Downtown is located in the heart of the city, and offers free breakfast (along with on-the-go breakfast bags) and a swimming pool. Suites provide mini-fridges and microwaves, and all accommodations have free Wi-Fi. The hotel is conveniently located by the Port of Miami.
Hilton Miami Downtown
This hotel’s location next to the Metro Mover (free to ride) is a selling point in itself for those who want to explore the city, but families will also appreciate the location near the Port of Miami (just 5 minutes) and South Beach (3 miles). The pool terrace at Hilton Miami Downtown isn’t too shabby either — it features panoramic views of Biscayne Bay.
Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay
The Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay is an ideal choice for families cruising out of the Port of Miami (but is equally good for a long stay). The hotel has an outdoor pool and restaurant with outdoor dining, and is pet-friendly.
DoubleTree by Hilton Grand Hotel Biscayne Bay
Condominiums with one or two bedrooms and full kitchens attract families to the DoubleTree by Hilton Grand Hotel Biscayne Bay, which also offers traditional guestrooms and suites. The hotel is located right on Biscayne Bay, and offers an outdoor pool, spa, and four restaurants, as well as a deli.
